A basic will can be drafted in about 10 to 15 minutes, and usually completes the simple task of dividing assets after a death. In addition to dictating how property and other assets will be split up among family members, the will of a deceased person can express specific requests or directions for someone to follow. A Rose Every Day
When Jack Benny, an American comedian and actor, passed away, he wanted to make sure his wife knew that he loved her. To that effect, the entertainer requested in his will that a single rose be delivered to her every day until her death as a token of his devotion.
A Funeral Party
After her death in 1970, the last request of Janis Joplin was made known. In her will, she had dedicated $2,500 to help host a wake party in the event of her passing. It may seem strange, but it was certainly a way to encourage people to celebrate her life.
A Little Hair for My Friends
Napoleon Bonaparte is one of the most famous conquerors in world history, but even he made a strange request in his will. After his death — sanitary and legal issues of his request aside — friends discovered that his will dictated that his head be shaved and his hair given to his closest friends.
Comic Book Cremation
Some of these requests may have put the law into question, but specialized attorneys may have also overseen them. In the case of Mark Gruenwald, best known for his work with Marvel Comics, his last wish was granted. That wish was to be cremated and to have his ashes mixed with ink to create new comics.
